Dear Faculty Colleagues,
You are receiving this message because you are listed as personnel on an NSF-funded award.
We would like to remind you of NSF requirements related to Current and Pending (Other) Support for active awards.
What is Current and Pending (Other) Support?
NSF defines Current and Pending Support as all resources available to you in support of your research efforts, regardless of whether they have monetary value and regardless of where the work is conducted. This includes support from both domestic and foreign sources, such as:
- All current awards, pending submissions, or proposals for research funding and sponsored projects under consideration, from any source, and whether the support is provided through the proposing institution or directly to the individual
- In-kind contributions (e.g. equipment, facilities, employees, students, or materials) - both those in-kind contributions intended and not intended for use on the project
- Visiting appointments or affiliations
- Other resources that support your research efforts
Disclosure and updates
- All Current and Pending Support must be disclosed at the time of proposal and updated as required by NSF
- If there are changes during the award period, they must be disclosed in accordance with NSF requirements (e.g., Just-in-Time requests, or as otherwise directed by NSF)
- Disclosing a new Significant Financial Interest to Lehigh in LIRA does not replace the requirement to report directly to NSF. If it qualifies as a change in Other Support, it must also be reported to NSF.
Omitted information
If you become aware that required information was not disclosed in a prior submission, it must be addressed promptly. Please contact your CGS as soon as possible so we can assist in determining next steps and, if needed, coordinating with the NSF.
Foreign collaborations and activities
NSF requires disclosure of all collaborations and affiliations, including those involving foreign entities. This includes:
- Active collaborations with individuals at foreign institutions
- Visiting, joint, or adjunct appointments (paid or unpaid)
- In-kind support or resources from foreign organizations
- Foreign activities, such as research, training, or education carried out in cooperation with foreign counterparts either overseas or in the U.S. using virtual technologies
Proposals that include foreign activities and/or funding to a foreign organization must include the requisite explanation/justification in the project description. Additional guidance is available in NSF’s Proposal & Award Policies & Procedures Guide (PAPPG) and related FAQs.
If you have any questions, please contact your Contract and Grant Specialist.
Best regards,
Cynthia Kane, Associate Vice Provost
Office of Research and Sponsored Programs
