Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce that the Office of the Vice Provost for Research will be re-introducing a limited number of internal funding opportunities. We recognize how important these programs are to the research community.
University Sabbatical Fellows Program
We invite applicants to our third round of the University Sabbatical Fellows Program. This competitive program allows selected faculty members to extend a regularly scheduled one-semester academic leave to a two-semester leave at full base salary. Candidates are chosen based on a compelling case that a full year sabbatical will make a substantive difference to their research activity and/or impact. Candidates are also expected to apply for external support for their leave as available by discipline (e.g., Fulbright, Guggenheim, Sage Foundation, etc.).
Faculty wishing to be considered for the University Sabbatical Fellows Program for academic year 2026-2027 should submit a one-to-two page narrative along with the standard application for an academic leave to their Department Chair this fall – please see Application Checklist here. Please note that different colleges may have different procedures for submitting academic leave requests and you should ask your Department Chair if unsure how to proceed.
We anticipate making decisions by January 2026. Please visit the program webpage for additional detail.
Spring Faculty Research Grant Cycle
The Faculty Research Grant (FRG) program will return for the spring of 2026. Please note that while we encourage proposals, we will be making a smaller number of awards due to fiscal uncertainty. Submission deadlines will be posted to the FRG webpage soon.
We hope to be able to offer more seed funding opportunities in the future. If you have questions about the sabbatical program or internal grant programs, please reach out to Kate Bullard (ksb216@lehigh.edu).
